Nigeria is seeking Danish investment and technology for projects in the marine and blue economy, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy says.
The ministry said the Minister Adegboyega Oyetola made the call during a meeting with Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Martin Lidegaard, in Copenhagen.
Oyetola urged Danish businesses to invest in Nigeria’s maritime sector, particularly in projects that can attract capital, technology and expertise.
According to a statement on Thursday, by Dr Bolaji Akinola; Special Adviser to the Minister, Oyetola says Nigeria wanted to identify bankable projects and practical partnerships with Danish businesses that would deliver measurable economic benefits.
“Nigeria is looking for partnerships that can improve sector performance, attract investment, deploy technology, strengthen skills and safety, advance sustainability and create quality jobs,” Oyetola said.
The minister identified ports and logistics, shipbuilding and repair, maritime services, digital technology, fisheries, green shipping, renewable energy and marine infrastructure as areas with investment opportunities.
He said Nigeria’s coastline, inland waterways, large consumer market and strategic location in West and Central Africa offered opportunities across the maritime value chain.
Oyetola also cited the presence of Danish companies in Nigeria’s maritime sector as a basis for expanding business ties between the two countries.
“We want to deepen that relationship and create the conditions for more Danish businesses, investors and technology providers to participate in Nigeria’s maritime transformation,” he said.
The Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Martin Lidegaard, welcomed closer cooperation with Nigeria on the marine and blue economy and stressed the importance of partnerships involving businesses, government institutions, technology providers and knowledge institutions.
The meeting formed part of the Nigerian ministerial delegation’s visit to Denmark to discuss maritime investment, infrastructure, technology, green transition, port efficiency, skills development and sustainable economic growth.
