More than 20 people, including women and children, are feared dead following an attack on Amper community in BWI District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, according to local sources, and is the third reported attack in Mangu within a week.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident. Its Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, said the command initially received reports of 18 casualties but indicated that the figure could rise above 20 as more information emerges.
Alabo said the Commissioner of Police, Faniyan Ayodeji, alongside other senior officers, was heading to the affected community to assess the situation.
Several residents are also reported missing following the attack, heightening fears over the security situation in the area.
The latest incident has renewed calls from residents for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable communities across Mangu.
