The Nigeria Police Force has dismantled a suspected kidnapping syndicate linked to a series of abductions and killings along communities bordering the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State.
The Force said the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) between June 24 and 26 in Gbagalape, Mararaba and Abuja.
A statement on Wednesday by Anietie Okokon, Force spokesperson, says two suspects, Buhari Adamu, 25, and Abubakar Saidu, 28, were arrested during the operation.
According to the him, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a deadly attack on Gbagalape community on May 16, 2026, during which several residents were abducted, while others were killed or injured.
Okokon also alleged that some victims were murdered after ransom demands had been made.
Following the arrests, operatives raided the gang’s hideout at Gbagalape Hills, where they recovered one AK-47 rifle, 22 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 14 cows and three sheep suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The Police said the suspects are assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate still at large.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations against violent criminal networks across the country.
He commended the operatives of the FID-STS for the operation and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and investigation.
