The Nigeria Police Force has forwarded the case file on the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for prosecution following the dismissal of four officers linked to the incident, including ASP Nuhu Usman.

According to the police, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, after Ogidi reportedly received a parcel from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and attempted to waybill it to Sapele.
The parcel was allegedly searched by residents and found to contain a fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm live ammunition, prompting a citizen’s arrest before police officers arrived at the scene.
The police said ASP Nuhu and his team took custody of the suspect, but instead of following standard operational procedures, the officer allegedly shot and killed the unarmed and already-apprehended Ogidi.
“The investigation established that the actions of ASP Nuhu and members of his team constituted professional misconduct, abuse of office, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, culminating in the unlawful killing of Mr. Mene Ogidi,” the police said.
The Force said internal disciplinary procedures had been concluded and all officers found culpable had been recommended for dismissal, a recommendation already ratified by the Police Service Commission.
“Their dismissal is therefore confirmed and takes immediate effect,” the statement added.
The police further disclosed that the case file had been formally forwarded to the Attorney General of the Federation for vetting and prosecution, while assuring Nigerians that the Force would fully cooperate to ensure the matter is prosecuted in court.
The Force also revealed that the driver who delivered the parcel from Yenagoa, alongside two vigilante members linked to the incident, remain at large, adding that tactical teams have been deployed to arrest the suspects.
Reaffirming its stance against extra-judicial killings, the police said no criminal allegation justifies unlawful action against suspects, insisting that every Nigerian is entitled to due process under the law.
The Nigeria Police Force extended condolences to the family of the deceased and pledged that justice would be served.
