President Bassirou Faye of the Republic of Senegal has been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government.
President Faye’s election was announced at the conclusion of the ECOWAS Summit, which took place on Sunday where regional leaders unanimously endorsed him to lead the West African regional bloc.
The announcement is confirmed in a statement by the Spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
Faye succeeds the outgoing Chairman and is expected to steer the Authority’s efforts toward strengthening regional integration, peace and security, democratic governance, and economic cooperation among ECOWAS member states.
