The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially handed over 50,000 newly recruited police constables to the Nigeria Police Force for training, marking a major step in efforts to strengthen policing across the country.
The handover took place on Thursday at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement by the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the exercise was conducted in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu and relevant statutory provisions.
Representing PSC Chairman, Justice Paul Adamu-Galumje, a Federal Commissioner said the successful candidates had been formally released to the Nigeria Police Force for training at designated Police Colleges and other approved institutions, in line with established standards and best practices.
The Commission also presented a flash drive containing the list of successful candidates to the Police.
Receiving the recruits on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, in charge of Training and Development, commended the PSC for conducting what he described as a transparent recruitment exercise.
He said the training would commence nationwide once the required funds were released.
Also speaking, the Director of Police Service Department at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ibrahim A. Muhammad, described the recruitment process as credible and transparent, while PSC Secretary, Onyemuche Nnamani, attributed its success to the collaboration and commitment of all stakeholders.
The Commission said the recruitment and training of the new constables form part of ongoing efforts to boost the manpower and operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.
