A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Inuwa Garba, has pledged to champion peace initiatives and convene a national dialogue to tackle Nigeria’s lingering farmer-herder crisis following his inauguration as a Global Peace Ambassador.
Garba, who represents Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency of Gombe State, made the commitment in Abuja after receiving the honour from the World Human Rights and Peace Commission (WHRAPC-Nigeria), describing the recognition as a call to greater service in promoting peace, justice and human dignity.
The lawmaker said the award would go beyond a ceremonial title, promising to lead practical peacebuilding efforts beginning with his constituency.
“I will not merely serve as an ambassador in name; I intend to become a bridge that unites people. Beginning from my constituency, I will organise a comprehensive peace and dialogue symposium aimed at addressing the persistent farmer-herder crisis in Nigeria,” Garba said.
He stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved through collective action, urging communities, leaders and stakeholders to embrace dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation in resolving conflicts across the country.
Garba also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing justice, peaceful coexistence and democratic values, saying the confidence reposed in him would inspire him to work harder in serving the people.
Presenting the award, Deputy Country Coordinator of WHRAPC-Nigeria, Ambassador Lawal Ribah, described Garba as a lawmaker whose leadership has been defined by integrity, selfless service and dedication to good governance.
Ribah said Garba’s impactful legislative contributions and constituency development projects distinguished him for the honour, adding that his commitment to peace, justice and the protection of human dignity reflects the ideals of the commission.
The World Human Rights and Peace Commission said it expects the new Global Peace Ambassador to continue championing initiatives that foster dialogue, strengthen democratic values and promote sustainable peace across Nigeria.
