Nigeria’s House of Representatives has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to secure a $516 million syndicated loan to fund key sections of the ambitious Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway.

The approval followed the presentation of a report by the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management, Abdullahi Rasheed, during plenary.

According to the President’s communication to the National Assembly, the facility will finance Sections 1, 1A, and 1B of the project, which forms a critical part of the administration’s infrastructure development agenda.
Spanning about 1,000 kilometres, the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway is designed to link Nigeria’s North-West and South-West regions, connecting major states including Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos.

The project is expected to significantly improve road connectivity, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and strengthen trade across key economic corridors.

When completed, the highway is projected to drive economic integration and open up new opportunities for growth by enhancing access between major commercial and agricultural hubs across the country.
