Spokesperson for the 10th House of Representatives, Akintunde Rotimi Jr., has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Ekiti North I (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency after a landslide victory in the party’s primary election, winning 22 of the 24 wards.
The keenly contested primary featured nine aspirants, including former lawmaker of the 7th Assembly, Bimbo Daramola, Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Gbenga Joseph, Ayorinde Ejioye, and Engr. Ayo Omotosho.
Ahead of the exercise, three aspirants, Funke Owoseni, Kayode Omoboya, and Barr. Yemi Ayodele Ayeni stepped down and endorsed the incumbent, strengthening his support base within the party.
A statement on Saturaday by his office says, a major constituency-wide endorsement was also held two days before the primaries, bringing together local government and LCDA chairmen, councillors, ward leaders, women and youth leaders, who unanimously backed Rotimi’s return bid.
The outcome reinforces Rotimi’s political dominance in the constituency, having previously defeated Daramola in the 2023 general elections, a result widely seen as consolidating his grassroots influence.
Rotimi, who currently serves as Chairman House Committee on medoa is regarded as one of the more visible voices in the 10th Assembly due to his legislative engagement and communication role.
The statement added that the primary was conducted peacefully, reflecting internal democracy within the APC and producing a clear outcome ahead of the general elections.
