Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has ordered an immediate investigation into reports that mattresses and fans donated to the Umaisha General Hospital, Toto Local Government Area, are missing.
The governor gave the directive after a viral video showed the lawmaker representing Umaisha/Ugya Constituency, Sa’ad Abdullahi, questioning hospital staff over the whereabouts of the items he donated.
Abdullahi had visited the hospital to assess its condition and check how the donated items were being used.
The items he claimed included 50 orthopaedic mattresses, 50 ceiling fans and 40 standing fans.
During the visit, the lawmaker asked hospital officials to account for the items, expressing concern about the condition of patients and the facility.
He also questioned staff over mattresses reportedly kept in the hospital store and asked to see the donated fans.
Speaking during the inauguration of eight commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries and board members in Lafia, Sule said he had requested a report on the incident.
The governor said the report must be submitted before the end of the week.
Sule described the reported sale of donated hospital items as unacceptable and said he was concerned that some people could undermine efforts to improve healthcare in the state.
The hospital staff member seen in the video reportedly said about seven of the 50 mattresses had been given temporarily to discharged patients, with an arrangement for their return.
The governor’s investigation is expected to establish what happened to the donated items and determine whether any official misconduct occurred.
