The government of Togo has announced visa-free entry for citizens of all African countries travelling into the country for short stays.
The announcement is made on Tuesday in a statement released by Togo’s Ministry of Security through its official X account.
Under the new policy, African travellers with valid national passports can enter Togo without a visa for up to 30 days.
According to the ministry, the decision is part of efforts to strengthen African integration and encourage free movement across the continent.
“Togo takes a historic step in strengthening African integration. Henceforth, all nationals of African states holding a valid national passport may enter Togolese territory without a visa, for a stay of up to 30 days,” the statement said.
The government said the policy reflects its commitment to making Togo a centre for mobility, cooperation, and economic opportunities in Africa.
“Through this major reform, the President of the Council reaffirms his commitment to making Togo a space of openness, mobility, opportunities, and cooperation at the heart of the African continent,” the ministry added.
Despite the visa waiver, travellers must still complete a travel declaration on the official government platform at least 24 hours before arrival to obtain a travel slip.
The Togolese government said the move aligns with wider efforts across Africa to improve regional integration, boost tourism, increase trade, and strengthen cooperation among African nations.
The latest policy places Togo among a growing number of African countries easing travel restrictions for fellow Africans.
Rwanda recently introduced a similar visa-free policy for African travellers.
In response, the government of Nigeria also began implementing a 30-day visa exemption policy for Rwandan nationals entering the country.
