Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled a Boko Haram/ISWAP extortion mission in Yobe State, killing one terrorist and recovering weapons, ammunition and logistics supplies in an operation aimed at disrupting the group’s funding network.
The Acting Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. He says the troops acted on credible intelligence indicating that terrorists were moving in two Volkswagen Golf cars and on motorcycles to collect illegal levies from communities along the Paya Kafiya axis.
According to Goni, troops from the Forward Operating Base, Bukarti, in collaboration with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched a fighting patrol and intercepted the terrorists.
“The troops engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower,” he said.
During the encounter, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was disabled and its driver, identified as a terrorist, was neutralised. Four other insurgents reportedly abandoned the vehicle and escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.
The military says follow-up operations conducted on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine and 15 empty PKT ammunition cases.
Troops also recovered assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools believed to have been used to sustain terrorist logistics.
Operation HADIN KAI said the successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven military operations in disrupting terrorist logistics and dismantling illegal revenue networks used to finance insurgent activities across the North-East.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining coordinated offensives with other security agencies and the support of law-abiding citizens until lasting peace and security are restored across the region.
