Trump Threatens Oman Over Iran Talks, Strait of Hormuz

By Zainab Bakare

US President Donald Trump has threatened military action against Oman if the country interferes with American efforts to secure a deal with Iran over navigation through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Trump made the threat during an interview with Fox News journalist Trey Yingst on Monday, as tensions over the vital waterway continue to escalate. He also called on Iran to surrender, while insisting that he was not in a hurry to reach an agreement with Tehran.

The remarks came as Iranian and Omani officials held talks on future maritime navigation arrangements through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that the two sides were working towards a joint declaration on the issue.

Trump has repeatedly argued that the United States should control the strategically important waterway, a position rejected by Iran, which maintains that the strait will remain under its control.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, carrying a significant portion of global energy supplies. Any disruption could have far-reaching consequences for international trade and energy markets.

Trump also claimed that his administration maintains a back-channel with Iranian officials, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as Washington continues efforts to influence Tehran amid the escalating tensions.
