US President Donald Trump is expected to defend his administration’s military operations against Iran when he addresses the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, according to AFP.
AFP reports that Trump is also expected to highlight his efforts to end the Gaza conflict and expand the Abraham Accords between Israel and Arab countries.
International Crisis Group analyst Daniel Forti told AFP that Trump could use the speech to contrast his peacemaking claims with his ongoing military operations.
The address comes as the Iran conflict continues to disrupt global trade and economic activity, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, AFP reports.
Trump is also expected to renew his criticism of the United Nations and its leadership.
During his UN visit, he is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other world leaders.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to focus on artificial intelligence and conflicts around the world.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to speak immediately before Trump. AFP reports that Lula recently warned Trump against interfering in Brazil’s upcoming election.
