The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has urged Nigerians to engage in prayers and reflection as Muslims commence the holy month of Ramadan and Christians observe the Lenten season today.
In his message to the nation on Wednesday, Speaker Abbas described the fasting periods as a divine opportunity to seek guidance and intervention for the country’s socio-economic, political, and security challenges.
“With the political season approaching ahead of the 2027 general elections, I encourage all Nigerians to use this sacred period to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity for our nation,” he said.
Speaker Abbas also called for prayers for President Bola Tinubu, and other political, traditional, and religious leaders across the country.
He emphasized the spiritual significance of fasting, noting that both Ramadan and Lent offer moments for reflection, restraint, and renewal. “Beyond titles and positions, we are servants first—accountable to Allah and responsible to humanity. These seasons teach patience in trials, compassion for the vulnerable, and discipline in our daily conduct,” he said.
The Speaker prayed for divine guidance for the nation’s leaders, blessings of peace and unity, and relief for struggling families.
“As we fast and pray, may we also recommit ourselves to kindness, integrity, and service to one another. Let us use this season to build bridges, forgive grievances, and uplift those in need. May Allah accept our fasts, our prayers, and our sacrifices,” he added.
The message comes as millions of Nigerians across the country mark the start of the two major religious observances simultaneously, highlighting the nation’s religious diversity and shared values of reflection and spiritual renewal.
