The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered sustained security operations to restore peace in Plateau State following the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North Local Government Area.
Speaking during an operational visit to the state, the IGP condemned the March 29, 2026 attack which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, assuring that efforts will continue until normalcy is fully restored.
He disclosed that upon receiving the distress call, a swift and robust response was activated, including the deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Usman Nadada, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force, AIG Francis Iwu, alongside eight units of the Police Mobile Force, the Special Intervention Squad, and other tactical and intelligence units in collaboration with the military.

The IGP noted that the situation has been significantly de-escalated through coordinated operations and sustained engagements with the Local Government Chairman, community leaders, and youth groups, while security personnel remain strategically deployed to maintain law and order.
He warned youths against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that reprisals or vigilantism would only escalate tensions and undermine peace efforts.
On arrival, the IGP paid a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to commiserate with the government and people of the state, and later visited the affected community for an on-the-spot assessment.

In his remarks, the Governor commended the Nigeria Police Force for its prompt response, particularly the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, and the role of the Police Mobile Force in containing the crisis.
He, however, called for structural improvements in security management, including the establishment of State Police, and recommended the deployment of modern policing tools such as night surveillance drones with infrared capabilities.
The Governor also urged the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) to intensify intelligence gathering, while reaffirming support for the Nigeria Police through provision of logistics despite existing operational challenges.
The IGP assured that he will brief the President and Commander-in-Chief on the situation and called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while supporting security agencies with credible information.
