Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has called on Nigerian students to support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu, citing ongoing reforms in the education sector as critical to youth development and national growth.
Barau made the appeal on Friday in Abuja while chairing the 45th anniversary celebration of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), urging students to align with the administration to sustain what he described as “transformative policies.”
According to the lawmaker, the Tinubu administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving access to education through initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the establishment of new tertiary institutions, and efforts to stabilise the academic calendar.
“The time is here for Nigerian students to show appreciation by supporting the second term bid of Mr President, so that the trajectory of reforms and innovations in the education sector will continue,” Barau said.

He noted that the current administration is creating opportunities for students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to pursue higher education and acquire skills needed in a modern economy.
Barau, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, emphasised that education remains central to national transformation, stressing the need to equip young people with innovation-driven and entrepreneurial skills.
“Beyond certificates, our youth must be empowered with practical knowledge and capacity. These are the foundations being laid by this administration,” he added.

The Deputy Senate President also commended NANS for its historic role in nation-building, describing the student body as a critical partner in promoting youth-focused policies and inclusive development.
He urged the association’s leadership to remain committed to responsible activism rooted in patriotism, integrity, and national interest.
“Let this anniversary not just celebrate the past, but serve as a renewed commitment to a future of unity, opportunity, justice, and shared prosperity,” Barau said.
