The Federal Government has expressed concern over the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture in southern Japan on July 28, 2026.
In a statement by Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the Japanese government and people.
Nigeria also sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives, the injured and others affected by the disaster.
The Federal Government said it stands in solidarity with Japan and commended the swift response of Japanese authorities and emergency services.
Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its longstanding friendship and cooperation with Japan, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery and the affected communities a successful rebuilding process.
