President Bola Tinubu has approved a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, as part of efforts to strengthen security across the country.

According to a statement on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also approved a take-off grant of N15 billion for the project.
Funding and infrastructure.

The intervention fund will be drawn from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2026 allocation.

It will support priority infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training resources.

Stakeholder consultation

The statement added that the decision followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Key considerations at the meeting included student intake capacity, funding realities, academic quality assurance, and the increasing manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.

Government position

President Tinubu said the expansion will strengthen policing education, improve institutional capacity, and enhance national security.

He added that the new campus is part of broader efforts to modernize police training and expand access to professional development within the Force.
