Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 394 components used in the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Niger State.
The agency said the items were recovered from a 26-year-old suspect, Mohammed Aliyu, during a patrol along the Kontagora–Zuru road. He was reportedly conveying the materials in a vehicle at the time of his arrest.
NDLEA on Sunday said the suspect and exhibits will be transferred to the relevant security agency for further investigation.
Chairman NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), who disclosed this in a statement by his spokesperson, Femi Bbabfemi, commends officers involved in the operations and urged them to maintain operational momentum.
He said the agency would continue to intensify efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent the spread of illicit substances across the country.
In Kwara State, operatives intercepted 10,000 pills of Captagon, a controlled amphetamine, along the Bode Saadu road where a suspect, Nasiru Mu’azu, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
In a separate operation along the same corridor, officers recovered drugs concealed in a modified trailer.
The consignment included 155,900 tramadol capsules, 6,000 injections, 3,000 co-codamol tablets, and 9,000 bromazepam tablets. A suspect, Aminu Isah, was arrested.
In Oyo State, NDLEA operatives arrested a passenger, Eze Prince Emeka, along the Ibadan–Oyo expressway after a body scan indicated drug ingestion.
The suspect subsequently excreted 45 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.043 kilograms. The agency said preliminary investigation indicates the drugs were intended for trafficking through northern routes to Europe.
In Edo State, officers intercepted a truck along the Benin–Lagos expressway carrying 1,196,000 pills of pharmaceutical opioids. Two suspects, Osagie Igbinibo and Omijie Malik, were arrested. The consignment was reportedly bound for Onitsha.
The agency also recorded cannabis seizures in multiple states. In Lagos State, a suspect was arrested with 810 kilograms of a cannabis strain.
In Bauchi State, operatives recovered 154.5 kilograms of skunk, while in Ekiti State, 466.8 kilograms was recovered from a residential property.
In Cross River State, NDLEA operatives destroyed 20,000 kilograms of cannabis cultivated on farmland and recovered an additional 170 kilograms of processed substance.
The agency said its commands also sustained drug abuse sensitisation activities under its War Against Drug Abuse campaign in schools and communities across several states.
