The Nigeria Union of Journalists has commenced activities for its 2026 Press Week with a free medical outreach designed to support the health and well-being of journalists and media professionals in the Federal Capital Territory.
The outreach, organised in partnership with Nizamiya Hospital, is scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, beginning from 8:00 a.m.
Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Grace Ike, said the initiative underscores the union’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of journalists who often operate under demanding and stressful conditions in the line of duty.
According to her, the medical outreach will provide free general medical check-ups, eye screening, blood pressure and blood sugar tests, as well as professional health consultations for journalists and other participants.
Grace Ike noted that maintaining good health is essential for effective and productive journalism practice, stressing that the council remains committed to programmes that improve the welfare of media practitioners.
She encouraged journalists and media workers across the FCT to take advantage of the opportunity to assess their health status and obtain professional medical advice.
The NUJ Press Week is an annual event aimed at celebrating journalism practice, promoting professional development, and strengthening solidarity and welfare among media professionals.
