The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media report claiming that pupils and teachers abducted from communities in Orire Local Government Area of the state have been released.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the Command describes the claim as false, misleading, and unsubstantiated.
The police urged residents of Oyo State to disregard the report and rely only on verified updates from the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government agencies.
According to the Command, there has been no development indicating the release of the abducted victims, adding that intensive rescue operations are still ongoing to secure their safe return.
It also warned against the spread of fake news and unverified information on social media, noting that such reports could trigger panic and undermine ongoing security efforts.
The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the police to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, as well as the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.
The Command further appealed for calm, vigilance, and public cooperation as security operatives continue coordinated efforts to resolve the situation.
