According to a statement issued on Friday by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, General Musa emphasized the importance of innovation and emerging technologies in tackling modern maritime security threats.

Technology Key to Future Naval Operations

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, General Musa noted that the future of naval operations depends on the adoption of advanced surveillance systems, enhanced intelligence capabilities, unmanned technologies, cyber defence tools, and data-driven operational platforms.

“The future of the Nigerian Navy lies in its ability to harness cutting-edge technology and strengthen collaboration with regional and international partners,” he said.

He added that a technology-driven Navy would improve maritime domain awareness, boost operational effectiveness, and contribute significantly to security within the Gulf of Guinea and beyond.

FG Reaffirms Commitment to Maritime Security

The Minister stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to enhancing the Navy’s operational capacity to protect Nigeria’s maritime assets, safeguard national interests, and support economic growth.

He congratulated the Chief of the Naval Staff, officers, ratings, and civilian personnel for their dedication and achievements over the past 70 years.

General Musa described the Nigerian Navy as a model of professionalism, discipline, resilience, and organisational excellence.

Nigerian Navy’s Role in Economic Development

Highlighting the Navy’s contributions to national development, the Minister said its operations have played a crucial role in supporting Nigeria’s blue economy.

He noted that the Service has helped secure vital sea lanes, offshore oil and gas infrastructure, and other critical maritime assets while combating piracy, crude oil theft, illegal fishing, and other maritime crimes.

“The Nigerian Navy’s contributions extend beyond maritime security. Through its active participation in internal security operations and support to sister services and security agencies, it has played a vital role in maintaining peace, stability, and the secure environment necessary for economic growth and national development,” he stated.

Boosting Investor Confidence and Trade

According to General Musa, the Navy’s efforts have strengthened Nigeria’s sovereignty, enhanced investor confidence, facilitated trade and commerce, and positioned the country to maximize opportunities within the maritime sector.

He also expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s international partners for their continued cooperation and shared commitment to maritime security and regional stability.
