Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has commended the Nigerian military, particularly troops of Operation HADIN KAI, for the successful rescue of 360 abductees from the Mandara Mountains, a known terrorist stronghold in southern Borno State.
The governor praised the operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against insurgency, describing it as a demonstration of courage, professionalism, and the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led military operations.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum says the safe recovery of hundreds of men, women, and children held captive by terrorists had renewed hope among affected communities.
He noted that the operation reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the Borno State Government to protecting lives and restoring peace across the North-East region.
“I wish to express my profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, officers, and soldiers who participated in this highly successful operation,” Zulum said.
“Their gallantry, professionalism, and sacrifice have once again demonstrated the unwavering commitment of our Armed Forces to protecting innocent citizens.”
Zulum Applauds Security Collaboration
The governor described the rescue as a significant achievement in the fight against terrorism.
“The rescue of 360 abductees from the Boko Haram stronghold is a significant achievement. It underscores the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and the determination of our security forces to ensure that no citizen is abandoned in the hands of insurgents and terrorists,” he added.
Zulum also commended local communities for their support, cooperation, and understanding, which he said contributed to the success of the operation.
Support for Military Operations
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the military and other security agencies with logistics and resources needed to sustain ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.
He noted that the Borno State Government would continue working closely with security agencies to strengthen efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability across the state.
Hope for Remaining Captives
Zulum recalled his visits to Ngoshe and Pulka earlier this year, where he met with victims and displaced residents affected by terrorist attacks.
He said the government remains committed to securing the release of all persons still being held captive by insurgents.
The governor specifically appealed to residents of Mussa in Askira/Uba Local Government Area to remain hopeful as efforts continue to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren.
Call for Vigilance
Zulum urged residents across Borno State to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
He stressed that public support remains critical to eliminating criminal activities and consolidating gains recorded in the fight against insurgency.
