The House of Representatives has passed a bill seeking to extend the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act by an additional three months, shifting the deadline from June 30 to September 30, 2026.
The bill, which amends the 2025 Appropriation Act, was presented during an emergency plenary session on Monday by the House Leader, Rep. Julius Ihonvbere.
Leading the debate, Ihonvbere urged lawmakers to support the legislation, saying the extension would provide the Federal Government with more time to complete ongoing capital projects across the country.
The House subsequently considered the bill under accelerated legislative procedure and approved it after passing first, second and third readings in a single sitting.
Speaker of the House, Rep. Abbas Tajudeen, who presided over the session, adopted the amended bill as a working document of the House before its passage.
Having secured concurrence from the Senate, the bill will now be transmitted to President Bola Tinubu for assent, after which it will become law.
The extension is expected to allow ministries, departments and agencies additional time to utilise capital allocations and complete projects captured in the 2025 budget.
