Concerned staff members of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), have appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to review proposed development plans within the Radio House complex in Abuja.
In a petition addressed to the minister, the staff called for careful consideration of any planned developments within the premises, citing the need to preserve the functionality and public value of the government-owned facility.
The petition, signed by Nicholas James on behalf of the concerned staff, described Radio House as a national asset and urged the FCT Administration to ensure that any future development aligns with the long-term interests of the institution and the public.
According to the petitioners, discussions have emerged around possible development projects within parts of the Radio House premises under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
The workers requested that relevant authorities thoroughly assess any proposed projects to ensure they support the operational needs of the complex and maintain existing infrastructure.
They also highlighted issues they believe should be considered during the review process, including space utilization, accessibility, parking facilities, aesthetics, and security.
The petitioners further called for broad stakeholder engagement and transparency in decisions relating to the use and development of the property.
They urged the FCT Administration to ensure that all approvals and processes relating to any proposed development comply with applicable regulations and serve the overall public interest.
The workers maintained that preserving the integrity and functionality of Radio House should remain a key consideration in any future plans concerning the facility.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation nor the management of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria had issued an official response to the petition.
