Lekan Fatodu has been reaffirmed as the new President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation after securing a resounding victory in a by-election conducted in Abuja on Friday.
Fatodu, who currently serves as the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, succeeds the late Dr. Chamberlain Dunkwu and will lead the federation for the next four years following his overwhelming 10-1 victory.
The by-election, supervised and endorsed by the National Sports Commission (NSC), saw members of the federation’s board unanimously express confidence in Fatodu’s ability to steer Nigerian aquatics to greater heights. The board also paid tribute to the late Dunkwu, acknowledging his contributions to the development of the sport.
Speaking after his election, Fatodu thanked the leadership of the National Sports Commission and members of the Nigeria aquatics community for the trust placed in him.
“I am very happy that we are making history together for the swimming family and Nigerian sports as a whole,” he said.
He also commended NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade for their efforts in raising the standards of sports administration in the country, describing them as a blessing to Nigerian sports.
Fatodu pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by working with dedication and commitment to build a sustainable and economically viable aquatics ecosystem in Nigeria.
“I embrace this responsibility with total commitment and assure the aquatics family and the National Sports Commission that I will not disappoint in delivering the mandate to transform the sport,” he said.
