President Bola Tinubu has lauded the ongoing infrastructure transformation across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing it as a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to practical development and improved quality of life for residents.
Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration of the newly completed Collector Road CN2, also known as Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard, and adjoining road networks in Katampe District on Friday, the President said the projects reflect a deliberate strategy to modernise Abuja and unlock new opportunities for economic growth.
Tinubu noted that the expanding road infrastructure is improving connectivity, enhancing security and opening previously underserved areas to residential and commercial development.
He also highlighted the installation of solar-powered street lights on major roads, saying the initiative has boosted safety and extended business activities into the night, contributing to increased economic activity across the capital.
The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving the rapid execution of key infrastructure projects and ensuring timely delivery.
According to Tinubu, the administration remains focused on implementing projects that have a direct and visible impact on citizens while showcasing the tangible benefits of effective governance.
Speaking at the event, Wike said the Katampe road project was designed to bridge critical infrastructure gaps and integrate existing road networks within the district.
He added that the completion of the road has already stimulated fresh investments and accelerated property development in the area, creating new opportunities for businesses and residents alike.
The minister stressed that infrastructure development remains central to economic expansion, job creation and improved living standards, noting that several ongoing projects are aimed at extending growth beyond Abuja’s city centre.
He pointed to recent interventions in satellite communities as part of efforts to ensure that more residents benefit from government investments in infrastructure.
Wike further disclosed that additional projects, including water supply schemes and new road networks, are underway to improve access to essential services and stimulate economic activities in surrounding communities.
Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, said the project aligns with the administration’s vision of leveraging infrastructure to drive economic growth and social development.
Earlier, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, explained that the 3.9-kilometre road project includes drainage systems, water and sewer infrastructure, telecommunications ducts, solar-powered street lighting, pedestrian walkways and landscaped green areas.
Dauda said the new corridor will strengthen connectivity between Katampe and neighbouring districts such as Mabushi, Jahi and Maitama, while supporting urban expansion and attracting further investment into the FCT.
