The Rivers State Police Command has removed a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from office and ordered an immediate investigation into allegations of misconduct contained in a publication circulating on online platforms.
The Command on Monday announced the decision in a statement issued by its spokesperson, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, saying the officer was relieved of his position pending the outcome of a thorough and impartial investigation.
According to the statement, the action followed allegations of misconduct involving the officer, which have attracted public attention on various online platforms.
“The officer concerned has been immediately removed from his position pending the outcome of a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter,” the Command stated.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, expressed concern over the allegations and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to transparency, accountability and professionalism.
He stressed that the Command would not tolerate any form of misconduct, abuse of office or actions capable of undermining public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
Adepoju assured residents that the investigation would be conducted diligently, professionally and without bias, promising that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
The police commissioner also reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, discipline and service delivery.
While appreciating members of the public for remaining vigilant, the Command encouraged citizens to continue reporting cases of misconduct through established complaint channels.
The Rivers State Police Command did not disclose the identity of the officer involved or provide details of the allegations, noting that investigations are ongoing.
The development comes amid growing public scrutiny of police conduct and renewed calls for accountability within law enforcement agencies across the country.
