The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered all personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to stop unauthorized social media activities that could undermine the Force’s integrity, professionalism, and public image.
He issued the directive amid rising concerns over officers creating and sharing videos, hosting live sessions, and engaging in online content while in uniform or in situations that clearly identify them as police personnel without approval.
According to a statemwnt on Tuesday night by the Anietie Okokon, Force Public Relations Officer, the IGP stresses that while social media remains a valuable tool for communication and public engagement, officers must comply with existing laws, regulations, and the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy.
He directed that personnel must not post unauthorized content in uniform, comment on official police operations, disclose sensitive information, or use their position for personal promotion, entertainment, or commercial gain.
He further instructed Commissioners of Police, departmental heads, and unit commanders to sensitize officers under their commands and enforce strict compliance.
The IGP warned that supervisory officers would be held accountable for any violations within their jurisdictions.
Disu also directed the Force Intelligence Department (FID) and the X-Squad to intensify monitoring of social media platforms to identify and discipline officers who breach professional standards.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and responsible communication, assuring the public of continued efforts to uphold trust and institutional integrity.
