President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have defended the Federal Government’s infrastructure-led development agenda, insisting that investments in roads, bridges and public utilities are key to unlocking economic growth and improving citizens’ lives.
Speaking through Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the commissioning of the Jahi-Gwarimpa Interchange in Abuja, President Tinubu described infrastructure as the bedrock of national prosperity. He said improved road networks are enhancing mobility, strengthening security and creating fresh economic opportunities by reducing travel time and facilitating business activities.
The President commended Wike for what he called the visible transformation of Abuja and its satellite communities, noting that the delivery of major projects reflects the administration’s commitment to translating the Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible benefits for Nigerians.
Responding to critics, Wike maintained that roads remain the backbone of development because they connect people to schools, hospitals, farms and markets. He added that the administration has embraced continuity in governance by completing inherited projects while also investing in water supply schemes and other essential services across satellite towns.
The FCT Minister challenged detractors to acknowledge the progress recorded through ongoing infrastructure projects, stressing that the government remains focused on expanding access to critical services and driving inclusive development.
Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the Jahi-Gwarimpa Interchange as a catalyst for improved connectivity, commerce and urban growth, while Bwari Area Council Chairman Joshua Musa said the expanding road network is already stimulating businesses and strengthening links between Abuja’s city centre and surrounding communities.
