Troops of Sector 2, 135 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled a suspected JAS/ISWAP terrorist roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles during a swift military operation.
The operation was launched on Wednesday after troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected the insurgents blocking the highway through surveillance cameras.
A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was immediately deployed, prompting the terrorists to flee toward the Mangari–Dora axis.
Security forces engaged the fleeing insurgents in a firefight, forcing them to retreat and abandon the area.
The troops subsequently cleared the route, secured the location, and conducted follow-up searches without encountering further resistance.
Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, said all 53 civilians were safely evacuated alongside the recovered vehicles and other property to Buratai town, where authorities have begun documentation and medical assessments of the victims.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their rapid response and professionalism, describing the operation as another step in ongoing efforts to restrict terrorist movements across the region.
It also urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, assuring the public that troops will continue sustained operations to maintain security and protect lives.
