Former Inspectors-General of Police have pledged their support for ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, reaffirming their commitment to helping strengthen policing and address the country’s evolving security challenges.
The endorsement came during an official meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
The gathering brought together several retired police chiefs, who held strategic discussions on improving the effectiveness of the Force through institutional continuity and knowledge-sharing.
According to a statement by Anietie Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, the meeting focused on leveraging the retired IGPs’ vast institutional memory and strategic experience to tackle contemporary security threats while accelerating ongoing police reforms aimed at improving service delivery and operational efficiency.
Speaking during the meeting, IGP Disu expressed appreciation to his predecessors for their continued commitment to the Nigeria Police Force, describing their wealth of experience as an invaluable resource for the current administration.
He said their insights would play a vital role in strengthening reform efforts and enhancing the Force’s capacity to meet modern security demands.
Among those present were former Inspectors-General Aliyu Attah, Sunday Ehindero, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Abubakar Ringim, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, Sulaiman Abba, Usman Alkali Baba and Kayode Egbetokun, underscoring a united front in support of reforms designed to build a more professional, accountable and effective Nigeria Police Force.
