NILDS DG to Deliver Presentation at Legislature Book Launch

Director General of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) Professor Abubakar Sulaiman has been selected to lead the presentation at the launch of a new book on the Nigerian Legislature.

The former minister of National Planning will headline the event scheduled for monday the 13th of July at the National Assembly Library Conference Hall Abuja.

In a press release made available to Democracy Radio, author of the book and Media Adviser to the President of the Ninth Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, Ezrel Tabiowo said the book completes an act in the scene of Nigerian legislature.

“The work undertakes a forensic analysis of the legislature’s performance across its core constitutional functions of lawmaking, appropriation, oversight, and representation, and advances detailed recommendations for institutional fortification”

Titled; The Nigerian Legislature: Understanding Its Impact on Democratic Governance and National Development, the 530-paged book is a comprehensive study that traces the evolution of the legislative institution from pre-colonial deliberative traditions through colonial imposition and military suppression to its contemporary operation within the presidential framework of the Fourth Republic.

Tabiowo stated that the new Book Offers Comprehensive Examination of the Nigerian Legislature, describing it as a major new scholarly work examining the history, functions, challenges, and future of the Nigerian legislature.

“The event will be graced by a special guest, Professor Abubakar Suleiman, Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), who will also serve as Book Presenter” he stated.

Tabiowo was a Chief legislative correspondent who previously served as Chairman of the Senate Press Corps and currently serves as Secretary General of the West African Parliamentary Press Corps.

According to him, the book features forewords by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, former Leader of the Seventh Senate and Pro Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti; Mohammed Bello Adoke SAN, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

“The book review will be delivered by Senator Ita Solomon Enang, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and former Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters” Tabiowo added.

Former Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, will serve as Chief Host of the book launch.
