The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has selected 12 coaches to represent the country at the FIVB Level I Coaching Certification Course scheduled to hold in Accra, Ghana, from August 3 to 8, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen the technical capacity of volleyball coaches across the country.
The delegation comprises national team players, former internationals and coaches from different league clubs, with seven women and five men making the final list. The initiative underscores the federation’s commitment to developing a new generation of technically sound coaches while promoting greater female participation in volleyball coaching.
Leading the contingent is Dorothy Egbum, who will serve as team leader, alongside Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dikyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua and George Samson Malaika.
According to the federation, the certification programme is a strategic investment designed to address the shortage of qualified female volleyball coaches in Nigeria, empower more women to take up coaching roles and enhance the country’s coaching structure for sustainable development.
The NVBF noted that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) made the final selection of the 12 participants from an initial list of 15 candidates submitted by the chairman of the federation’s Technical Committee and Secretariat after a screening exercise.
The federation congratulated the selected coaches and expressed confidence that the knowledge and practical skills they will acquire during the course would contribute significantly to the growth and development of volleyball in Nigeria.
