Nigerian Volleyball Federation President, Musa Nimrod, has hailed the country’s U-18 beach volleyball team for its impressive international triumph, challenging the young players to replicate their dominance at senior level.
Nimrod, who also oversees the CFPP Beach Volleyball Commission, described the competition as highly competitive, praising the players and coaching crew for their resilience, particularly during a difficult quarter-final encounter.
The NVBF president said Nigeria’s growing dominance in youth beach volleyball has made the country a major target for opponents across Africa, but warned the team against complacency.
“At the youth level, Nigeria is number one. We must move forward beyond where we are,” Nimrod said.
He also credited the coaching crew for their tactical intervention during changeovers, noting that beach volleyball rules restrict coaches from communicating with players while play is ongoing.
Nimrod expressed confidence that Nigeria’s continued progress at youth level would eventually translate into senior success and strengthen the country’s prospects of qualifying for the Olympic Games.
As part of efforts to deepen regional development, he disclosed plans for a four-nation beach volleyball competition in Badagry, Lagos, with Nigeria set to support Senegal ahead of its hosting responsibilities.
Looking ahead to the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, Nimrod said Africa has the talent, physical strength and potential to compete for medals despite concerns over limited preparation time.
“I believe that Africa should be on the podium. We cannot host without Africa being on the podium,” he added.
