The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, has pledged to return Democracy Radio to terrestrial broadcasting.
Professor Sulaiman gave the assurance in Abuja, while introducing the station to NILDS staff during an Open House programme.
According to a statement by the DG’s Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, the Director-General urged staff to take ownership of the station, saying its success depends on the collective strength of the Institute.
He commended Team Democracy Radio for using the station’s temporary absence from terrestrial broadcasting to strengthen its digital and online presence.
Professor Sulaiman urged the team to build on the progress and further improve the station’s programming.
The former Minister of National Planning said he wants Democracy Radio to become a platform Nigerians can rely on for news and analysis of developments in the National Assembly.
He said the station should provide listeners with “news behind the news” on activities and developments within Parliament.
Earlier, the Acting General Manager of Democracy Radio, Ben Ubiri, who led a presentation showcasing the station’s morning programme and other core segments, thanked the Director-General for supporting efforts to reposition the station.
He said the management’s support would help Democracy Radio realise its potential and take its place among leading broadcast platforms.
