The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has hailed the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, for his role in promoting interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria as he clocks 70.
NCPC Executive Secretary, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, described the Sultan as a shining example of bridge-building and tolerance, particularly through his role as Co-Chairman of the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).
Adegbite, in a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the commission’s Board, Management and staff, said the Sultan had provided exemplary leadership in fostering understanding among adherents of different faiths in the country.
“Your Eminence has remained a shining example of bridge-building and tolerance. As Co-Chairman of the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council, NIREC, you have provided exemplary leadership for inter-faith harmony among adherents of different religious faiths in Nigeria,” he said.
The NCPC boss described the Sultan’s 70th birthday as a “Platinum Jubilee” worthy of celebration and thanksgiving to God, noting that his seven decades had been marked by service to humanity and nation-building.
He also described the Sultan as a “rare gem,” a detribalised Nigerian and a global advocate of peace who had consistently preached love of country and the unity of Nigeria.
Adegbite commended the Sultan for his firm commitment to the stability and unity of the country, saying his contributions to peace and national cohesion remained impactful.
He prayed that God would grant the Sultan longevity and good health to enable him continue serving his people and the nation.
“As you join the league of Septuagenarians, it is our prayer that the Good Lord will continue to uphold you and grant you the grace of longevity in good health of mind and body to serve your people and the nation even more,” he said.
