The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, has pledged half of his monthly salary for six months towards the construction of a new mosque at the Institute.

Professor Sulaiman made the pledge in Abuja during the groundbreaking ceremony for the mosque, which members of the Instituteโ€™s Muslim community are funding through collective contributions.

He maintained that prayer, unity and cooperation were important for promoting peace and peaceful coexistence in the country.

Professor Sulaiman noted that these values could strengthen teamwork and boost productivity in the workplace.

He urged staff to support the mosque project and work together to ensure its completion, saying the initiative would provide a dedicated place of worship as well as opportunities for Islamic learning and spiritual development.

The Chief Imam of the National Assembly Mosque, Sheikh Rayyan Sanni, commended the NILDS Muslim community for taking ownership of the project through their collective contributions and urged them to sustain their support, describing it as opportunities to strengthen their faith.

Also, Chairman of the Mosque Committee and Director of Legal Services at NILDS, Dr Shuaib Danwakka, appreciated the Director General and members of the Muslim community for their financial contributions.

He said their collective support had moved the project from the planning stage to actual construction.

Christian members of the Institute also attended the ceremony, highlighting the spirit of religious tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence among NILDS staff.
