The FCT Police Command has launched an investigation into a confrontation between Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) personnel and commercial motorcyclists in the Life Camp area of Abuja.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Thursday during enforcement of the FCT ban on commercial motorcyclists operating on major roads and routes.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, says the Command was alerted to the altercation involving a VIO officer and a commercial motorcyclist.
According to Adeh, the VIO personnel was attached to an FCTA task force enforcing the ban. She said the altercation later escalated into a confrontation.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation.
Adeh said the probe would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Police Command said it would release further information as the investigation progresses.
It added that normalcy had been restored in the area and urged residents to remain calm.
The Command also advised FCT residents to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
