Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, says his administration has absorbed 5,000 contract teachers into the state civil service and recruited another 6,000 teachers to address staff shortages in public schools.
Okpebholo disclosed this in a message on Monday to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
He said the government would continue to prioritise teachers’ welfare and invest in schools and the wider education sector.
“We cannot build schools and leave them without teachers,” the governor said, stressing the need to provide qualified teachers for pupils in urban and rural communities.
Okpebholo commended teachers across the state for their service and said their work extended beyond classroom teaching to shaping the values, skills and character of future generations.
He said the administration would continue to support teachers and improve learning conditions across the state.
The governor congratulated teachers on World Teachers’ Day and thanked them for their contribution to education in Edo State.
