The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued a man from an angry mob following an alleged attempt to abduct a five-year-old child in Kuje Area Council.

The incident occurred around 2:46 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, at Angwan Lado, Kuje.

According to a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command received a distress call that an unidentified man was being assaulted by residents over an alleged child abduction attempt.

Police operatives from the Kuje Division were immediately deployed to the scene and rescued the suspect, identified as Bashir Usman.

Preliminary investigations, the Command said, indicated that Usman was attacked following allegations that he attempted to abduct the child in front of her residence.

The suspect has been taken into protective custody as detectives intensify investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish whether he had any accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, condemned the mob action, warning residents against taking the law into their own hands.

Sanusi stressed that jungle justice is a criminal act and could result in the death of an innocent person, amounting to murder under the law.

The Command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and wellbeing of their children.

Residents were also advised to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station rather than resorting to violence.
