President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has described the inclusion of opposition figures in President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council as a historic political development never witnessed in Nigeria’s political history since 1999.
Akpabio spoke on Wednesday during plenary, following comments by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele on the emergence of the Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition.
Bamidele welcomed the coalition, saying it could promote political unity and an inclusive campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also expressed satisfaction with the appointment of former Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo to coordinate the coalition in Gombe State.
Akpabio said the participation of leaders from other political parties in Tinubu’s campaign council reflected a shared commitment to national unity.
He commended the political leaders who joined the alliance and expressed hope that their collaboration would contribute to Nigeria’s development.
Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro declined to comment on the coalition but seconded the motion for adjournment.
