Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has increased the monthly salaries of cleaners at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, from ₦15,000 to ₦80,000.
The increase followed an appeal by the cleaners during the governor’s visit to the hospital on Thursday.
Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, announced the development in a statement on Friday, saying the new salary aligned with the national minimum wage.
The statement said, “Governor Makinde approved an increase in the monthly salary of cleaners at the Teaching Hospital from ₦15,000 to ₦80,000, aligning their pay with the national minimum wage.”
The governor also appealed to striking hospital workers to suspend their industrial action and give his administration an opportunity to address their grievances.
Makinde said his government was willing to resolve the workers’ concerns through dialogue, urging them to call off the strike to pave the way for further discussions.
“Initially, I didn’t want to respond to those who are on strike. But if there are challenges, we must find ways to solve them,” he said.
He added that resolving the dispute required cooperation between the workers and the state government.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, commended the governor for supporting the health sector and assured workers that the administration remained committed to addressing recurring strikes.
