The Rivers State Police Command has removed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost following reports that suspected cultists renovated the facility.
The Command also ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the renovation and the alleged visit by the suspected cultists to celebrate its completion on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Kaborlo, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.
The Command said it had taken note of a trending social media report and video alleging that suspected cultists financed or carried out the renovation.
It condemned any action or association that could undermine the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or give criminal groups public recognition.
The Command stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect lives and property and enforce the law. It warned that such facilities must not become platforms for criminal groups to gain influence or legitimacy.
According to the statement, the two officers have been queried and relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
The probe will establish who financed or facilitated the renovation, which officers approved the project, whether the required procedures were followed and whether any personnel breached professional standards.
The Command acknowledged that Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 permits legitimate contributions to the Police General Fund. However, it stressed that donations must not compromise police independence, security or professional standards.
It added that no donation or assistance would shield anyone from investigation or prosecution, promising appropriate disciplinary and legal action against anyone found culpable.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and the fight against cultism and organised crime.
