Akpabio expressed shock over Uduaghan’s death at the age of 71, just three days before his 72nd birthday.

In a condolence statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President described the deceased as a distinguished medical doctor, committed statesman and bridge-builder who devoted his life to public service.

Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, a period that coincided with Akpabio’s tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Akpabio said Uduaghan’s administration played a significant role in the infrastructural development of Delta State, while his commitment to healthcare delivery and human capital development demonstrated his dedication to improving the lives of his people.

He further described the late governor as a detribalised leader and respected elder whose contributions to democracy and national development would be greatly missed.

“On behalf of the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I extend our deepest condolences to the larger Uduaghan family, his wife, Mrs Roli Uduaghan, the children, the people and Government of Delta State, and the Itsekiri nation and indeed the entire Niger Delta on the passing of their illustrious son and former Governor of Delta State,” the statement quoted Akpabio as saying.

The Senate President prayed for the peaceful repose of Uduaghan’s soul and asked God to grant his family and the people of Delta State the strength to bear the loss.
