The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has mourned the death of Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100.
The monarch described his death as a profound loss to the Yoruba people and Nigeria, citing his contributions to public service, democratic governance and the preservation of Yoruba identity.
The Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Oba Ogunwusi said Fasoranti’s commitment to justice, good governance and the welfare of the Yoruba people had earned him respect across the country. He added that the late elder statesman played an important role in political discussions about the future of Yorubaland and Nigeria.
The monarch extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, Afenifere members, the people of Akure and Ondo State, and the wider Yoruba community. He also prayed for strength for the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has also mourned the death of the Afenifere leader.
