The House of Representatives descended into a rowdy session on Wednesday as lawmakers debated a motion on the poor implementation of the budget and delays in releasing funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, who represents an Abia State constituency, sponsored the motion to address concerns about slow budget execution and delayed fund disbursement.
One of the motion’s key prayers urged President Bola Tinubu to appear before the House to explain the challenges affecting budget implementation and the release of funds to MDAs.
The proposal sharply divided lawmakers. Members who opposed the motion repeatedly shouted “sit down” while colleagues spoke in support of it, disrupting proceedings.
The heated exchanges stalled legislative business and triggered a debate that lasted about 30 minutes.
After the debate, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas rejected the motion. He said the prayers presented on the floor differed from those in the version originally submitted by the sponsor, describing the changes as a deviation from the approved text.
