The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has proposed a partnership with Democracy Radio to expand digital inclusion, counter misinformation and promote responsible use of artificial intelligence in journalism.
The team made the proposal during a courtesy visit to Democracy Radio in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting in Abuja, Yasmine Salako, CITAD Team Lead, said the organisation is using technology to drive social development, particularly for women, youth and rural communities.
She explained that CITAD has set up ICT centres across rural communities in the Federal Capital Territory and trained over 15,000 people in digital skills to improve access to education and livelihoods.
Salako also raised concerns about technology-related challenges in elections and warned that the rise of artificial intelligence could increase misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for stronger media collaboration on fact-checking and ethical reporting.
Responding, Acting General Manager of Democracy Radio, Uju Unwachukwu, welcomed the proposal, saying it aligns with the station’s mandate to strengthen civic education, legislative accountability and public engagement.
Both organisations agreed to explore joint training for journalists, election observation reporting, AI use in newsrooms and public awareness campaigns on digital rights and privacy.
