The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is accelerating efforts to strengthen judicial infrastructure in Abuja, with new Magistrate Court projects advancing toward completion across key districts in the capital.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, conducted an inspection tour on Friday, to assess the pace and quality of construction at multiple court sites.
Judicial Expansion Gains Momentum
The inspection began in Asokoro, where the Minister observed that work was progressing steadily despite difficult terrain conditions.
From there, he moved to Jabi, where a Magistrate Court project initiated in December 2025 is currently underway.
The tour concluded in Garki, with contractors assuring the administration that the project will be completed and delivered before the end of June.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with both the speed and standard of construction.
Addressing Space Constraints in the Judiciary
Briefing journalists after the tour, Wike said the expansion is a direct response to a presidential directive aimed at preventing space shortages within the FCT judiciary.
According to him, the addition of new courtrooms will help eliminate delays associated with limited facilities and improve the overall efficiency of legal proceedings.
He emphasized that strengthening the judiciary is essential to ensuring effective governance and the rule of law in the capital.
Part of Broader Infrastructure Drive
The Minister dismissed suggestions that the FCTA is prioritizing the judiciary over other sectors, stating that the administration is simultaneously investing in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other public services.
He reiterated that the goal is comprehensive development across all arms of government, ensuring that residents benefit from improved public infrastructure and enhanced service delivery.
The new Magistrate Courts form part of a broader strategy to modernize Abuja’s public institutions and position the city as a fully equipped federal capital.
